Clinicopathological and Ultrasonographic Studies of Myoma of the Uterus



Abstract
Clinicopathological and ultrasonographic studies were made on the 302 cases of uterine myoma operated in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chung Ang University Hospital during 3 years and 3 months from 1984 to 1987.
The results obtained were as follows:
1) Myoma was observed most frequently in the age group 40 to 49 years.
2) Pregnancy was not experienced in 5.3vis and number of gravidity more than 8 was most common and 27.1%. Number of parity between 2 to 4 was 67.2% and most common.
3) The chief complaints were made in order of uterine bleeding (63.9%), pain (56.6%), leucorrhea (18.9%), pressure symptom (17.9%), and secondary symptoms (7.0%). Menorrhagia (36.1%) and low abdominal pain (32.1%) were most common in uterine bleeding and pain, each other.
4) The infertility was observed in 10.9% of the myoma cases in which consisted of 5.3% of primary and 5.6% of secondary infertility.
5) The accuracy rate of myoma in the diagnosis prior to operation was 79.8% and PID was most common in misdiagnosis.
6) The ultrasonography was performed in 58 cases (19.2%) and diagnostic accuracy rate was 91.4%. 7) The most frequent sonographic findings was enlarged uterus and encountered in 58.6%. 8) Outline of the myoma, there was pattern of clean, hazy, unclear, and nodular which showed
frequency of 58.4%, 35.9%, 3.8% and 1.9%.
9) Secondary degeneration in sonographic findings was revealed in 16.1% and of which hyaline degeneration was most frequent and 7.5% in frequency.
